VMware & Karmic Koala

Looks like I haven’t been posting in a while on the English blog so here goes…

I recently upgraded my Ubuntu at work to Karmic Koala, the result is mostly stable and quite neat. I have had a problem with VMware 6.5.3 which gets stuck at 76% during installation with nothing happening. I was fortunate enough to find this blog entry which answered all my queries.

I’ll just sum the steps up here in case it disappears. As normal user, launch the following command in a term: while true; do sudo killall -9 vmware-modconfig-console; sleep 1; done

Then launch the following: sudo ./VMware-Workstation-6.5.3-185404.i386.bundle –ignore-errors. Closely followed by: vmware-modconfig –console –install-all.

Following install, you’ll need to edit this file: /etc/vmware/bootstrap and add this at the end: VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force

Modifier keys did not work for me anymore, so had to reset it: setxkbmap
